Hey. Can I let you in on a little secret?
The journey to minimalism can be a bit of a bumpy road in the beginning. Overwhelming. Confusing.
Will I ever need this? Do I actually like that? Will I get around to fixing those?
So. Many. Questions!
Don’t you worry your pretty little mind, I’m here to help!
You see, I’ve been living a minimalist lifestyle since February of 2016. Well truly it was long before that, but I didn’t realize there was a name for it until that time.
Now here we are. Over a year later and I don’t even have to think about the “whats,” “ifs,” and “buts,” of it all. At this point it’s second nature. I don’t go through my days constantly asking myself if I should get rid of something.
But it wasn’t always that way.
I remember when I started the decluttering process. Even though I knew better, I held onto articles of clothing because I felt like I would have nothing to wear if I got rid of every single item that “doesn’t bring me joy” (Marie Kondo, what up?) I also recall sitting in front of a binder of sentimental items and struggling to let go. These are just two instances in a line of many.
Despite that, I continued to push through and stay the course.
Today I look back, remembering those times so clearly, and realize I can help others who are in the beginning stages of minimalism.
So! That’s what I’m doing with this video. I’m sharing 10 questions you can ask when going through the decluttering process yourself.
Now, just a heads up – this is a two part series. I wanted to keep the video short and the questions manageable so I broke it up into two videos. In today’s video I will share five questions, and next week you can come back to the site and find five more.
Watch the video below or continue scrolling for the first set of questions. Then be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel so you can be notified as soon as I upload the second set of questions.
- If I were shopping right now, would I buy this?
- Do I have a similar or duplicate item that serves the same purpose?
- Am I holding onto this item to fix later?
- Am I keeping this because it was expensive?
- Have I used this item in the last year?
Are you excited for questions 6-10? Come back next week!
