Have you ever discovered a new blogger or online personality and quickly became infatuated with them? But like, in a totally non-creepy way.
No? Just me? Cool.
Whatever, you are going to LOVE this girl!
It took me about 2.5 seconds to realize that she could be my real life BFF. From our love of neutrals, to our pull towards minimal, modern decor, our struggles with anxiety, and so much more . . . I feel like she just gets me, ya know?
Enter: the coolest girl ever, Erica Stolman, the creator and blogger behind the hugely popular blog Fashionlush. Basically, she’s killing it. In every way possible.
She’s naturally gorgeous. Incredibly fashionable. As raw and authentic as they come. Aka our favorite kind of person.
Like I said, killing it!
To say I’m excited to interview her is a massive understatement. Let’s just jump right in!
What was the motivation behind starting Fashionlush?
I started Fashionlush when I was in college working towards my degree in Fashion Merchandising. I needed an outside source to gather inspiration so I decided to start a blog. This was very early in the game, 2008, so I didn’t know this could eventually be a career choice… but as the industry grew, so did the blog!
Favorite go-to outfit?
Currently (cause it is alway changing) I am all about an oversized graphic t-shirt with thigh high boots or fun sneakers, a little backpack, & a whole bunch of layered gold necklaces.
Go-to meal?
So specific, but I eat this all the time: rice cake w/ this amazing cream cheese from Sprouts that is 1/2 cream cheese & 1/2 greek yogurt (it’s insane), w/ red onion, smoked salmon (aka lox), tomato, capers, & lemon pepper. It’s my healthy version of a lox bagel, which is my favorite thing in the world.
Go-to anxiety crusher?
Essential oils are always burning in my diffuser, I love my cbd honey in my tee (learn more about CBD here) & a little THC.
Basically, what are your ESSENTIALS?
Life essentials- rose water spray, sheet masks, all of the vintage Harley t-shirts, boyfriend/family/dogs, sparkling water (& my SodaStream), ginger anything/everything, turmeric tea from Trader Joes.
You have such an effortless, minimal, natural beauty. What does your daily beauty routine look like?
Thank you! I wash my face every morning with a gentle, all natural scrub & then I apply an oil of some sort along with sunscreen before my makeup. At night I wash my face again with the natural scrub, then comes toner, & moisturizer (eyes & neck moisturizers too!). Lately I have added Retin-A to the mix, which has really been doing wonders w/ acne & scarring.
Earlier this year you wrote a post titled “Social Media Killed my Confidence.” We love when our favorite bloggers share raw, authentic thoughts! What was the motivation behind that post and how did you turn it around for yourself?
My main motivation behind the post was just an overall sadness for what social media could be doing to younger generations. I was talking to a friend about how grateful I was this whole crazy world of social media wasn’t as prevalent when we were in highschool because it really can get depressing. The way people make their lives appear to be so damn perfect all the time would make any one feel less than or not enough, I feel this way all the time, but luckily I can snap out of it pretty quick & come back to the reality that no ones lives are perfect & social media just isn’t an honest representation of what’s really going on.
For young girls, who are so impressionable, they might not be able to come to that realization… which is a real shame, cause you just can’t compare yourself to the people you see on the internet.
The “interior” tab on your blog speaks to my soul. I too am a lover of neutrals. Was it difficult to define your personal style?
Love that! I honestly just got it from my Mama. She has always had a modern style & loved minimalism/black & white so that kinda just stuck with me!
Best piece of advice you ever received?
Stay in your own lane, a constant reminder from best friend & fellow blogger, Lauryn of The Skinny Confidential.
(p.s. – I have interviewed Lauryn on the blog. You can find that interview HERE.)
What are some of your future goals with the Fashionlush brand: both short and long term?
Short term my goal is to always keep creating good content because content is king, always. Long term- I would eventually like to expand the brand- I have a few concepts on what direction I will go, but haven’t nailed anything down just yet! Stay tuned!!
